Die Vorlesungsreihe „Grundlagen der Baukonstruktion“ ist eng an die Inhalte des Studios gekoppelt. Die Vorlesungen gliedern sich nach Materialien und deren struktureller und konstruktiver Logik. Sie vermitteln anhand von aktuellen, als auch klassischen Beispielen einen vertieften Einblick in die Zusammenhänge von Material, Konstruktion, Detail und Entwurf. Dabei liegt der Schwerpunkt nicht nur auf der Vermittlung technischer Grundlagen, sondern auch auf der Förderung der eigenen Analyse- und Reflexionsfähigkeit. Die Vorlesungsreihe wird durch Tutorien ergänzt und bietet Grundlage und Anreiz für das Selbststudium, das essenziell für die Arbeit im Studio ist.

Das Studio Material vermittelt grundlegende Kenntnisse über Material und Fügung beim Entwerfen und Konstruieren von Architektur. Dabei geht es sowohl um technisch-konstruktive Grundlagen und Bedingungen als auch um das Verständnis der Konstruktion im architektonisch konzeptuellen Kontext. Im Studio werden nacheinander die Faktoren Mensch, Maßstab und Kontext um Methoden der Raumbildung und Themen der Baukonstruktion in Form von einzelnen Übungen, die aufeinander aufbauen, ergänzt. Ein wesentliches Merkmal der Grundlagenlehre ist die bauliche Umsetzung von architektonischen Elementen, die bis in den Massstab 1:1 reichen kann. Das Grundlagenstudio wird zum „Reallabor Bauen“ und vermittelt den Studierenden wichtige Kenntnisse im Spannungsfeld von Planung und Umsetzung.

The lecture series ‘Fundamentals of Building Construction’ is closely linked to the content of the studio. The lectures are organised around materials and their structural and constructional logic. Using both contemporary and classical examples, they provide an in-depth insight into the interrelationships between materials, construction, detail and design. The focus is not only on imparting technical fundamentals, but also on fostering students’ own analytical and reflective abilities. The lecture series is supplemented by tutorials and provides a foundation and incentive for self-study, which is essential for work in the studio.

The studio ‘Material’ provides fundamental knowledge of materials and joinery in the design and construction of architecture. It focuses both on technical and structural fundamentals and conditions, as well as on understanding construction within an architectural and conceptual context. In the studio, the factors of people, scale and context are successively supplemented by methods of spatial formation and topics in building construction, in the form of individual exercises that build upon one another. A key feature of the foundational course is the structural realisation of architectural elements, which can extend to a scale of 1:1. The foundational studio becomes a ‘real-world construction laboratory’ and equips students with essential knowledge at the interface between planning and implementation.
